SUNREICH YOUTH SHELTER

Interior Architecture

Type: Commercial Graduation Project

Project Name: Sunreich Youth Shelter

The goal of this project was to design a youth shelter by going through layout design process given. We needed to select three words to describe our design. Then incorporate them in a concept.

  • OUTREACH: to reach or extend farther than somebody or something else; to exceed or go beyond a limit.

  • LIGHT: the energy producing a sensation of brightness that makes seeing possible; a source of fire, especially a match; the condition of brightness created by the rays of the sun during the day; of a relatively pale shade.

  • PLAYFUL: fond of having fun and playing games with others; said or done in a teasing way or in fun.

The concept selected was sun/star. A star is a massive, luminous sphere of plasma held together by gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun, which is the source of most of the energy on the planet. The energy of this sunlight supports almost all life on Earth by photosynthesis and drives Earth's climate and weather.

Most stars are currently classified using the letters O, B, A, F, G, K, and M, where O stars are the hottest and the letter sequence indicates successively cooler stars up to the coolest M class. According to informal tradition, O stars are called "blue", B "blue-white", A stars "white", F stars "yellow-white", G stars "yellow", K stars "orange", and M stars "red", even though the actual star colors perceived by an observer may deviate from these colors depending on visual conditions and individual stars observed.

By choosing sun/star as a concept, along with the three focus words; outreach, light, and playful; the design was able to show that compassion and love serve as a light that will be a way of outreach to trouble youths. By following the color classification of stars, the color scheme was a given. With the wide variety of colors, the interior is splashed with a playful ambiance.
